No. 6 Tennessee dropped its second game of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 76-75 loss to Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Several different factors led to Tennessee’s deficit throughout the game but the Vols scratched and clawed their way back from 16 points down to make it a two-point game with 2.8 seconds remaining. Tennessee guard and Nashville native Chaz Lanier went to the free throw line with 2.8 seconds left and hit the first free throw but missed the game-tying attempt. A few seconds later, Vanderbilt’s whole student section was on the court at Memorial Gymnasium celebrating the win.

Lanier finished the game with a team-high 17 points while Zakai Zeigler, Felix Okpara, and Igor Milicic Jr. all finished with 16.

Tennessee moves to 16-2 on the season after its in-state rivalry loss on Saturday.

After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes met with the media for 13 minutes to discuss his reactions to the loss. Barnes spoke about mishaps from the Vols’ defense, sitting Zakai Zeigler with two fouls, the end-of-game scenario, and more. Tennessee also had Milicic and Okpara speak with the media for a few moments as well.
