Where Recruiting Outlets Rank Tennessee Transfer Commit Star Thomas

Tennessee football landed its third commit in the transfer portal on Sunday afternoon when Duke running back Star Thomas committed to Vols ahead of his final year of college eligibility.

Thomas played his first two college seasons at New Mexico State before transferring to Duke ahead of the 2024 season. The Louisiana native made the transition to power four well, rushing for 871 yards and seven touchdowns on 213 carries in his lone season at Duke. He also added 20 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown.

The 6-foot, 210-pound running back earned a 70.1 PFF grade for his play in 2024 at Duke including a 73.8 rushing grade. According to PFF, Thomas had 22 rushes of over 10 yards and had an impressive 612 yards after contact.

Thomas’ addition helps sure up a Tennessee running back room that lost SEC Offensive Player of the Year Dylan Sampson to the NFL Draft as well as underclassmen Cam Seldon and Khalifa Keith to the transfer portal.

Along with DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis, Thomas will be a part of a three-headed monster in the Vols’ running back room entering the 2025 season.
