Tennessee baseball is back moving up the rankings after they went 4-0 last week including wins over Oklahoma State and Arizona in the Astros Foundation College Classic.
The Vols are the No. 1 team in the country in every ranking this week besides D1Baseball who has Tennessee as the No. 2 team just a spot behind LSU. Tennessee’s biggest jump came in the Perfect Game rankings where they went from the No. 4 team to the No. 1 team in the country.
It was a big week for Tennessee as key pitchers AJ Russell, Tegan Kuhns and Dylan Loy all made their season debuts on Tuesday night against North Alabama. All three will be big pieces of Tennessee’s pitching rotation this season. Kuhns was the opened for the Vols on Sunday against Arizona while Loy recorded two outs out of the bullpen in Tennessee’s win over Oklahoma State and again versus Arizona.
The long ball powered Tennessee’s offense in Houston over the weekend. The Vols combined to hit 10 home runs and score 23 runs in their three wins over the weekend. Second baseman Gavin Kilen was stellar, hitting four home runs, a triple, a double and seven total RBIs.
A number of other Vol batters had strong weekends including freshman Levi Clark who hit two home runs and drove in four runs. As strong as Tennessee’s offense was in Texas, its pitching may have been even better. The Vols allowed just five total runs in their three games.
