Tennessee baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media following the Vols’ 4-2 midweek win over West Georgia to discuss his takeaways from the game.
Vitello shared his thoughts on Chris Newstrom’s recent play, Thomas Crabtree’s big night on the mound, Andrew Fischer’s improved play defensively and more.
Plus, Vitello talked about his current and former players’ response to Alberto Osuna’s letter to the NCAA Monday requesting they grant him eligibility and gave a quick preview of the upcoming Florida series in Knoxville.

“The theme was kind of the same as guys looking out for other guys that wear orange, regardless of how long it’s been or what your status is or anything like that,” Vitello said about the response to Osuna’s letter. “So, I think the fact that everyone is willing to look out for each other regardless of circumstances, some guys are here longer, some guys shorter, it ends better or worse for some people, but I think it truly has kind of become a family deal up here.
“And you have to earn that, and the person you mentioned (Osuna), in particular, did it in a very, very short amount of time at every place he’s ever been to. And fortunately, this is one of them.”
The Vols will kickoff SEC play against Florida Friday in Lindsey Nelson Stadium. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. ET.
