Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball made a major splash on Sunday night, landing five-star wing Nate Ament over a top group that included Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky and Louisville.
Ament is not only the top rated recruit in Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class and is not only the top rated recruit that Tennessee’s signed up Rick Barnes. But Ament is the top rated recruit that Tennessee basketball has ever signed.
The 6-foot-9 forward ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 4 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. A Warrenton native, Ament ranks as the top player in the state of Virginia and the No. 1 power forward in the 2025 cycle.
He barely beats out Tobias Harris who was the No. 6 player in the 2010 recruiting class. Recruiting rankings weren’t a thing when Allan Houston signed with Tennessee in 1989 but he was a high school First Team All-American.
Ament if the fourth member of the Vols’ 2025 recruiting class, joining four-star shooting guard Amari Evans, four-star center DeWayne Brown and three-star point guard Troy Henderson.
Brown was Tennessee’s first commit in the Vols’ recruiting class last spring. Evans joined him in the fold in the fall and both signed with Tennessee in the fall. Tennessee added Henderson, who was the point guard on Ament’s AAU team, in March and he signed with the Vols last week.
So where does Tennessee basketball’s recruiting class rank after landing Ament? Taking a look here.

He will play at UT one year then transfer. His body not ready for the rugby style SEC play so I don’t see him getting the minutes he wanting part of reason he didn’t go duke or UK with loaded front court. He will be good player in few years if he don’t try NBA after his first decent season. But in my opinion he not plug and play.
I’m a Louisville fan I gave money to Fanstake for Nate. I just want to say you and your agent are
lowlifes and I want my money back.
