Tennessee baseball is coming off its worst weekend of the season when the Vols dropped two out of three games against Kentucky at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols have now lost two straight home series, falling to Texas A&M in Knoxville the week before their road series win at Ole Miss. It marks the first time that Tennessee has lost consecutive home series under head coach Tony Vitello.
Liam Doyle was dominant on the mound again for Tennessee in its 8-2 series opening win over Kentucky on Friday night but that was the only positive of the Vols’ weekend.
Tennessee’s offense fell flat in each of the series’ final two games. Kentucky earned a 4-1 victory in game two and an 8-2 victory in game three. The three runs over two games was the least that Tennessee scored over a two game stretch since the 2019 season.
The top half of Tennessee’s lineup was solid against the Wildcats, but the bottom five spots of the lineup were unproductive. Batters in those five spots combined to reach base just four times in the final two games of the weekend series.
The Vols moved down in every rankings this week but remains in the top 10 of all five major rankings. How far did Tennessee fall? Check it out here.
