A Tennessee target on the recruiting trail is set to reveal his collegiate commitment imminently.

Four-star running back Jonaz Walton announced last week that he will be committing to his school of choice on Wednesday, May 14th, at Central High School in Carrollton, GA.

A live broadcast of the commitment will be streamed on the On3 Recruits YouTube Channel on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. ET.

According to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, Walton lands as the No. 124 prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 10 running back, and the No. 18 player from the state of Georgia.

It appears to be a five-team race for Walton’s services despite him listing a Top 10 back in February. According to On3, those five teams are Tennessee, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, and Stanford. It looks like it could be an uphill climb for Tennessee in the final days, though. Walton has one “high” Crystal Ball prediction from 247Sports to land with Notre Dame, while the Fighting Irish also lead On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine at 81%.

Walton also competes in swimming and track and field as a multi-sport athlete in his community. As an eighth grader, Walton won the Georgia Middle School state championship in the 200-meter (22.74), according to 247.

Tennessee has not landed a running back commitment in the 2026 class yet, but has added a trio of backs this past offseason. The Vols signed Duke transfer Star Thomas from the portal and added three-star running back Daune Morris (Murfreesboro, TN) and three-star RB Justin Baker (Buford, GA) in the 2025 signing class. All three players went through training camp with the Vols this spring.

Walton has been busy this spring with unofficial visits to Florida, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Tennessee in the last month. He was recently in Knoxville for an unofficial on April 7. Walton also has four official visits set up after his commitment, but it’s unclear whether he will still visit these programs after revealing his destination or if he will shut down his recruitment: Alabama (May 30), Florida (Jun. 6), Notre Dame (Jun. 13), and Tennessee (Jun. 20).

Tennessee currently has seven commits in its 2026 class, led by five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon. 247 has Tennessee with the 27th-best class in the nation at this point in the cycle. Perhaps a surprise commitment from Walton could boost Tennessee up the rankings, but we’ll have to see how things unfold during his announcement.
