One of the constants of the Tennessee football program under Josh Heupel has been legacy offensive lineman Jackson Lampley. A legacy recruit who signed with Tennessee under Jeremy Pruitt, Lampley was a rotational lineman on Heupel’s first four Volunteer teams.
Lampley is out of eligibility after spending six years playing for the Vols but he’s not done with football yet. The Nashville native is joining the LSU football staff as an offensive coaching intern, Lampley announced Tuesday night.
“One of the biggest challenges in coaching is finding that first opportunity,” Lampley wrote in a statement. “The idea of getting that start at an elite program with a chance to earn my stripes and work under some of the best coaches and administrators in the country is almost too good to come true.”
Lampley joins Brian Kelly’s staff in Baton Rouge ahead of a significant season for the Tigers. LSU is coming off a disappointing 9-4 season that included losses against USC, Texas A&M, Alabama and Florida as well as a Texas Bowl win over Baylor.

LSU is 29-11 in Kelly’s three seasons as head coach with a SEC West title in 2022 and bowl game wins all three season. With starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier returning for another season, expectations are high in Baton Rouge for the 2025 season.
Lampley was never a full time starter during his career at Tennessee but he did start a few games during his career. He was a rotational guard during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Lampley earned a 64.2 PFF grade in 231 total offensive snaps in 2024 after earning a 66.0 PFF grade in 221 total snaps during the 2023 season.
A Tennessee legacy, Lampley’s father Brad Lampley, played on Tennessee’s offensive line in the mid ’90s. While Brad Lampley played during one of the best eras of Tennessee football, Jackson was apart of the Vols’ turnaround as a program under Josh Heupel.
Lampley comes from a coaching family. His grandfather Dennis Lampley was a legendary high school football coach at Louisville’s Trinity High School
