Tennessee baseball has been an easy target for SEC fans to rip over the last two months with the defending national champions struggling in the back half of conference play and ahead of this week’s SEC Tournament in Hoover.
Former Tennessee receiver Dayton Sneed joined that group Monday, getting a dig in at the struggling Vols on his Instagram story.
Reposting On3’s post of D1Baseball’s top 25 rankings this week, Sneed commented that he “switched at the perfect time. They trash now.”
Sneed entered the transfer portal at the end of spring practice and committed to Bill Belichick and North Carolina shortly thereafter. The Tar Heels baseball team ranks third in this week’s D1Baseball rankings and is a potential regional opponent for Tennessee baseball.

A Nashville native, Sneed was a walk-on receiver at Tennessee for two years where he caught one pass for 12 yards. It is unclear whether or not Sneed will be on scholarship at North Carolina.
While Sneed didn’t have a significant role in his two seasons at Tennessee, he was one of the Vols’ better walk-ons last season and had a strong performance in the 2024 Orange & White game. It’s still unlikely that Sneed would have had a real role for Tennessee next season but the Vols’ lack of receiver depth made it a possibility.
The potentially bigger impact on Sneed’s departure from Tennessee could be the fact that his younger brother Carson is a four-star tight end committed to the Vols in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Carson Sneed took an official visit to North Carolina last month as they look to flip the tight end.
Tennessee baseball enters the postseason having lost its last five series and six of its last seven. Thanks to a strong start to the season, the Vols finished the regular season with a 41-15 (16-14 SEC) record and are still a lock to make the NCAA Tournament.
The Vols have the talent, led by SEC Pitcher of the Year Liam Doyle, to still make a postseason run. Time will tell if they can flip the switch and get going in time.
Tony Vitello’s eighth Tennessee team opens postseason play Wednesday morning against either Alabama or Missouri at the SEC Tournament in Hoover.

Nobody even knows who this dude is… Why should we listen/care what he thinks of says. Sounds like a load of sour grapes to me
Sneeze who. He wasn’t anything, a nobody 🤏🤏🤏🤫🖕… we’re trash? Good luck with deflated footballs, oh yeah you’ll stand on sideline… but good luck, 7-5 season..
Nobody with any class would make such an inappropriate statement. Sneed’s comment says a lot more about him than it does about our baseball team.
Sneezy needs to worry about Billi-cheezy and the other dwarfs. Nobody even knows who he was…
