Tennessee baseball concluded its regular season by going on the road and dropping two out of three games against Arkansas.
The series loss marked Tennessee’s fifth straight and its sixth series loss in its last seven series as Tony Vitello’s squad enters the postseason struggling and searching for answers as they attempt to get back to the College World Series for the third straight year.
Like many of its series during its recent struggles, Tennessee took the series opener over the Razorbacks. But this time it was behind an offensive explosion with usual game two starter Marcus Phillips on the mound. With SEC Pitcher of the Year Liam Doyle on the mound Friday night, Tennessee looked like it was in a good spot to claim the weekend series.
But Arkansas high powered offense took Doyle deep three times and scored eight runs, six earned, in 4.2 innings pitched as the Razorbacks evened the series with an 8-6 victory. Things spiraled for Tennessee in the third inning of game three to drop the weekend set against a strong Razorbacks’ team.
So where does Tennessee land in the rankings after a poor close to the regular season? Taking a look here.
