SoCon Pitcher of the Year Brady Frederick committed to Tennessee baseball Tuesday night just a day after he entered the transfer portal Monday and visited Tennessee Tuesday.
A Knoxville native, Frederick posted an 8-2 record, 2.67 ERA and 0.89 WHIP as a sophomore last season at ETSU. While he was not a starter for ETSU in 2025, Frederick made 24 relief appearances and posted a team-best 77.2 innings pitched.
A right-handed submarine pitcher with an extremely low arm slot, Frederick posted a 24.4% strikeout rate and a 6.1% walk rate in 2025. Opposing batters hit just .183 against Frederick.
Instead of the sinker that most submarine pitchers use, Frederick throws a cut-fastball that sits 85 mph but touches 86-87 “on good days.” He compliments the cut-fastball with an upper 70s slider he throws frequently and a changeup that he used less last season at ETSU.
Frederick was not only ETSU’s top pitcher last season but he was the top pitcher in all the SoCon. Frederick earned SoCon Pitcher of the Year honors for his dominant showing as a reliever in his true sophomore year. The All-SoCon team was riddled with Bucs after ETSU posted a 41-17 (14-7 SoCon) record. ETSU won the regular season championship and conference tournament before losing in the Nashville Regional.

Frederick was key in ETSU’s 7-6 extra-innings win over Tennessee back in March, allowing two earned runs while striking out four in 3.2 innings pitched.
The former Bearden standout has two years of eligibility remaining, but will be eligible for the 2026 MLB Draft after his junior season.
Frederick is Tennessee’s fourth transfer portal commit with all four being right-handed pitchers. Big South Pitcher of the Year Clay Edmondson, Kennesaw State’s Bo Rhudy and MIT’s Mason Estrada all committed Tony Vitello and his staff before the Vols’ 2025 season ended.
The Vols also hold a commitment from Matt Barr, the top junior college pitcher in the country. Both Edmondson and Barr are eligible for the 2025 MLB Draft and are real draft risks. Barr ranks in the top 200 of the MLB Pipeline draft prospect rankings while Edmondson is a submarine pitcher with a mid-90s fastball making him attractive to professional baseball.
Rutgers weekend starter Landon Mack began a visit with Tennessee Tuesday night after posting a 6-5 record, 4.03 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 80.1 innings pitched. He totaled 70 strikeouts for a 20% strikeout rate while posting a fantastic 4.9% walk rate in his freshman season.
