Nashville quarterback Ty Snell hasn’t stepped foot in his first high school class. But that hasn’t kept Tennessee football from offering Snell a scholarship. The Vols became the sixth team and the third SEC team to offer Snell earlier this week after watching him at Tennessee’s football camp over the weekend.
While Snell is just a rising freshman at Nashville’s Lipscomb Academy, he played in multiple games as an eighth grader last season. The Mustangs posted a 4-6 record last season as they continue to deal with the TSSAA sanctions coming from Trent Dilfer’s tenure as head coach.
Tennessee is the six school to offer Snell a scholarship, joining Butch Jones and Arkansas State, Marshall, Memphis, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
Snell is the latest big name quarterback prospect out of middle Tennessee. After decades of never producing Division I quarterback prospects, the Volunteer State is on a run of producing blue-chip quarterback recruits.

The Vols landed four-star quarterback and former Brentwood Academy standpoint George MacIntyre in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Nashville Christian Schools standout and five-star recruit Jared Curtis is a Georgia recruit in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
Ironically, Curtis is the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting cycle according to the 247sports composite rankings while Tennessee holds a commitment from Faizon Brandon— the No. 2 quarterback in the 2026 cycle.
While the state of Tennessee has been producing more quarterbacks, the more important thing is how well they perform once they get to the college level which is still to be determined. Snell is also just a rising true freshman and time will tell what level of recruit he ends up being.
Lipscomb is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season this fall with the true freshman Snell behind center. The schedule begins in extremely difficult fashion when Lipscomb faces defending state champion McCallie.
