VFL Christian Moore made his highly anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Angels in a series at Baltimore over the weekend, but there’s still plenty of room for growth and adjustment after six at-bats at the plate.
The Angels called up Moore, the organization’s No. 1 prospect, on June 12, getting him in time for a three-game series with the Orioles on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Moore totaled six at-bats between Friday and Saturday’s game and reached base one time with a walk on Saturday. He did not record a hit in his two games while striking out in three of his trips to the batter’s box.

From a fielding perspective, it didn’t take long for Moore to get his feet wet. He earned his first MLB putout with a routine ground ball in the bottom of the first inning in Friday’s game.
Despite the struggles, the former Vol still managed to soak in the sights and sounds of an experience that many dream of but few get to see come true.
“That was unreal,” Moore said after Friday’s game, according to Yardbarker. “Best day of my life. Everything you dream of. Everything you hear people talk about. The buzz. Everything. It’s that. The adrenaline. It’s the bright lights. It’s fun. I’m just grateful to be here and be able to put this uniform on and play with these guys.”
The road that Moore has traveled has seen him hit ups and downs in the past, but he’s grown from each of them. Moore struggled a bit early in his minor league career, but is using that perspective in his first stint in the bigs.
“I think when you play this game every day, you figure out what type of player you are, figure out what type of person you are,” Moore said before his Friday debut, according to the Orange County Register’s Jeff Fletcher. “That was really good for me, and I definitely needed that, that struggle, per se. And I think I came out of it a little bit. I found myself a little bit, found what I love to do. And it was awesome.”
It’s not hard to think that a player like Moore is carrying that mentality with him as he prepares for his next series with the Angels. It’ll be another challenging set of games, this time on the road against the Yankees in New York, but Moore has shown to be a quick learner and a fierce competitor. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time before the puzzle pieces fit together to see the bigger picture.
The Yankees will host Moore and the Angels in a four-game series this week from Monday to Thursday in New York. The first three games have a 7:05 p.m. ET start time while the series finale will take place on Thursday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Barring an MLB Network subscription, fans might have the easiest time watching the game on Wednesday, with it being broadcast on Amazon Prime Video.
