A pair of newcomers to the Tennessee basketball team met with the media on Tuesday afternoon in Knoxville. The Vols are in the early stages of summer workouts and held a practice open to the media on campus on Tuesday.
Tennessee’s two player reps included freshman guard Amari Evans and Louisiana Tech transfer guard Amaree Abram.
Evans comes to Tennessee as a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class and was listed as the No. 50 overall player, according to 247’s rankings. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard enters the program with a “college ready body” and a “mature approach,” in addition to his natural skills on the court, according to Adam Finkelstein. Evans brings an “aggressive scoring mindset” to Tennessee and will be an interesting prospect to watch as he begins his career on Rocky Top.
Abram, on the other hand, was a key addition for Tennessee through the transfer portal. The 6-foot-4 guard has been with three different teams over the last three seasons, averaging 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists this past year with the LA Tech Bulldogs. Abram proved to be an effective shooter last season at 42.2 FG%, 37.3 3FG%, and 84.8 FT%, and helps Tennessee replace some veteran shooting through graduation over the offseason.
Both players spent a few minutes talking with the media on Tuesday as they detailed their transition to the Vols’ program, what excites them about being with Tennessee, and much more.
