Three-star receiver Tyran Evans de-committed from Tennessee football Wednesday night, he announced on his X (Twitter).

“After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee,” Evans wrote. “Thank you to Coach Heupel, Coach Kelsey Pope, Coach Joey Halzle, and the entire Vol staff for believing in me. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family.

Evans committed to Tennessee in early January but continued to take visits after announcing his commitment. The Charlotte native is coming off visits to Kentucky, North Carolina State and Miami. Evans was originally scheduled to take an official visit to Tennessee this weekend but that visit presumably will no longer happen.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound receiver ranks as a three-star recruit and the No. 501 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. Evans also ranks as the No. 81 receiver and the No. 23 player in the state of North Carolina in the 2026 recruiting class.

Starring at Hough High School, Evans caught 36 passes for 98- yards and 14 touchdowns in his junior season.

Tennessee football’s 2026 recruiting class now contains nine commitments and just one receiver commit. The lone receiver commit is a good one in four-star Knoxville slot receiver Tyreek King. Josh Heupel and his staff are also in hot pursuit of a pair of blue-chip receivers.

Tristen Keys, the No. 1 receiver in the country, visited Tennessee last week while Bell Buckle receiver Joel Wyatt is a 6-foot-4 prospect who ranks as a top 50 recruit nationally.

After Evans’ de-commitment, Tennessee’s nine commit recruiting class now ranks No. 36 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
