Tennessee football is currently dealing with the balancing act all schools across the country must perform. The Vols started workouts on Wednesday, are still hosting transfer portal targets and are putting in continued efforts on the high school recruiting trail.

On Wednesday, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and a few other staff members hit the road to check in on some recruits. One of the targets that Heupel went to see is already a verbal commit, but continuing to build on relationships is a necessity in this era of college football.

Heupel went south to see defensive line commit Kadin Fife. The four-star prospect plays at Chattooga High School out of Summerville, Georgia. According to 247 Composite, Fife is the No. 285 player in the class, No. 33 defensive lineman and No. 32 player from the Peach State.

“Hulking defensive lineman who operates outside the tackles on Friday nights in Georgia’s Class A D1 and will slide inside at the next level,” 247 analyst Hudson Standish wrote. “Believed to be hovering around 6-foot-5, 295 pounds but hasn’t had his frame verified by a third-party or in a combine setting. Possesses fantastic fluidity for a POA defender his size which suggests immense pass rushing upside. Pursues the football at a high level and regularly makes effort plays down the line of scrimmage or chasing quarterbacks in the backfield. Redirects well in chase mode and can glide to a deceptively quick top end gear. Needs to improve pad level and learn how to consistently find leverage…”

Fife is one of four commitments in the boat for Tennessee so far in the 2027 class. He joins four-star tackle Princeton Uwaifo, three-star linebacker JP Peace and three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield. The class is still young, though, and plenty more commitments are expected to trickle in over the next year.

Tennessee is coming off an extremely strong 2026 class, as well. The Vols landed 28 commitments in the class, with 27 signed in the early signing period and a local prospect committing just days ago. This was headlined by a trio of five-star prospects, quarterback Faizon Brandon, wide receiver TK Keys and offensive tackle Gabriel Osenda. The group ranks fifth in the country on 247.
