It didn’t take long for former Tennessee defensive end Tyre West to hear his name called during the Senior Bowl on Saturday afternoon. On the game’s first play, West burst through the American Team’s offensive line and picked up a tackle for loss on a run play up the middle. West wrapped up the running back and single-handedly took him down for a loss of two yards.

West is a starting defensive lineman for the National Team in Saturday’s game. He was named a starter for his team after only participating in one day of workouts during the week in Mobile, AL. West joined the Senior Bowl roster midway through the event this week and only practiced on Thursday after missing Tuesday and Wednesday’s workouts.

In a move that’s being seen less and less in college football, West spent all four seasons with the Volunteers. He played in 48 total games over those four years, with no less than 11 appearances in each season.

West tallied career-high numbers during his senior season with Tennessee in 2025, racking up 23 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble. He ends his career with 65 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
