Tennessee Basketball dropped its regular-season finale to Vanderbilt at home on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Commodores by a score of 86-82 in the Food City Center. The loss drops Tennessee’s regular-season record to 21-10 overall and 11-7 in SEC play before the conference tournament next week in Nashville.

The Commodores began the game with a 15-2 run, putting Tennessee in a massive hole early. The uphill climb, combined with a lackluster offensive night from senior guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie, proved to make earning a comeback a difficult task as Vanderbilt led for the entire game. While Tennessee did put up 60 points in the second half, the Vols’ 22-point first half and 10-point halftime deficit made life tough.

Tennessee did go on a few runs and found some offense in the final 20 minutes, but Vanderbilt continued to have answers. The Vols got close near the end of the game, but the Commodores hit their free throws to keep the Vols away.

  1. I am 76 years old. I have watched UT in every sport for over 60 years. Recently, in EVERY sport we lose due to lack of Leadership and basic fundamentals. Our players seem to be un-coachable and strut around with no sense of purpose.. that purpose being to represent the Big Orange Brand NOT their own. The NIL has ruined college sports. The administrators and Trustees must stop and say no to the NCAA. The mystique of the amateur student athlete has been ruined and so many good kids/student athletes never get a chance to excel like they once did. It is SHAMEFUL.!! At some point ONE school must stand up and re-coop the meaning of the college experience… The University of Tennessee has the guts to do it!
The SEC and Big Ten could survive on their own!
