There’s another head coaching change set to take place in the SEC this offseason in women’s basketball. Georgia head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson and the Bulldogs have mutually parted ways, the school announced on Saturday morning.
“We would like to thank Coach ABE for her leadership and wish her well moving forward,” J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks said. “We are committed to building on the proud tradition of Lady Bulldog basketball and will continue to support our program with the necessary resources for future success. We have an outstanding group of alumni and a dedicated fan base. Our search for a new head coach will focus on someone who will carry on this legacy and connect with our student-athletes, alumni and supporters in an impactful way.”
Abrahamson-Henderson was with Georgia for four seasons before this decision. She earned a 69-59 overall record with a pair of NCAA tournament appearances in this span. She was also a player at UGA from 1986-1988 before transferring to Iowa from 1988-90.

This past season, Georgia was a seven-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs lost to 10-seed Virginia, though. The Hoos would go on to upset two-seed Iowa, as well, and advance to the Sweet 16.
This snapped a two-year streak for Georgia of not making the tournament. In Abrahamson-Henderson’s first season, the Bulldogs were a 10-seed, but defeated seven-seed Florida State before losing at two-seed Iowa.
Prior to her time at Georgia, Abrahamson-Henderson was the head coach at UCF. There, she compiled a 131-49 record while reaching the NCAA Tournament in each of the final three seasons in which it was held. In her final year, she led the program to the Round of 32 before being eliminated. The UCF job is now open, as well, with the firing of Sytia Messer.
This is the third SEC job to open up this offseason. Alabama head coach Kristy Curry left the Tide to become the head coach at USF. She was replaced by Pauline Love, the former associate head coach at Oklahoma. Florida also fired its coach, Kelly Rae Finley, and hired Rhode Island’s Tammi Reiss as her replacement.
