VCU combo guard Terrence Hill Jr. wrapped up an official visit with Tennessee basketball on Friday morning. Hill arrived in Knoxville on Wednesday before departing Friday as Tennessee put its best foot forward with one of the top players in the transfer portal.
“It went great, man,” Hill told RTI of his visit. “The city of Knoxville has a lot to offer, so coming down here and just seeing what they had to offer was a great experience. Having my family down here and having my guy with me, Connor, just to have that experience overall was a great experience.”
Hill is coming off a breakout sophomore season at VCU where he averaged 15 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-3 guard was an extremely efficient scorer, shooting 46.6% from the field and made 81 three-pointers at a 37% clip last season.
Once Hill entered the portal, Tennessee quickly expressed interest and got him on a Zoom call before bringing him in for a visit.
“Just to see what Rick Barnes had to offer for me and how much he believed in me,” Hill said. “He said he watched a lot of tape on me throughout my games this season. He was really excited. He’s done really good with a lot of great point guards, so it feels very intriguing, for sure.”

A true combo guard, Hill mostly played the point guard spot last season for the Rams. Tennessee told him that they want him to play both on-and-off the ball for them next season but expect him to initiate offense.
“I think it’s a little bit of both, to be honest,” Hill said of his position. “I think I see myself scoring a lot, play making a lot, whether that’s being at the one or being at the two. But primarily going forward, I think for me to get to that next level is going to be me at that point guard spot.
“Just me being the primary guy that’s going to start our offense, run our offense. A lot of ball screening is what I like to do. His offense is really predicated around his point guard and even him talking about me being off the ball and getting some easier shots with the guys coming in I think was a big value for me.”
Hill visited Kansas earlier this week before taking the trip to Tennessee. The highly touted transfer does not plan on making any more visits before announcing his commitment. Tennessee appears to be in a strong position coming out of the visit.
Tennessee has landed four commitments out of the transfer portal to date including Belmont sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade, Cal combo guard Dai Dai Ames, Loyola (Chicago) center Miles Rubin and Notre Dame forward Jalen Haralson.
