From the way you’ve heard people talk about elite 2027 running back David Gabriel Georges, you might think that he was considered a sure-fire consensus five-star prospect. Up until the last couple of weeks, though, that hasn’t been the case.
While Gabriel Georges has been ranked as a five-star on the composite and industry rankings, we entered summer with the 2027 prospect being ranked as a four-star on both ESPN and Rivals’ in-house services.
ESPN changed that in late June by bumping DGG up to a five-star after seeing him in “limited in-person evaluations and on tape.” That still left Rivals as the lone outlier, though. 247Sports has had him tagged as a five-star for a good while now.
Rivals officially gave DGG his fifth and final star in their updated Rivals300 rankings on Monday. He’s now tagged as the company’s No. 23 prospect in the class and the No. 2 running back in the cycle. In comparison, 247Sports has DGG tagged as the No. 12 player in the class, while ESPN has him at the No. 14 spot.
With the changes from ESPN and Rivals in the last two weeks, the elite Tennessee target is now officially a consensus five-star prospect. It seemed only inevitable that we’d be at this place before the 2026 football season.

At the time of this publication, we’re just nine days away from his commitment date, which is set for July 22. Reports came out last week that Gabriel Georges had already made his decision, but those reports were reversed just a few days later. He’s currently deciding between Tennessee, Ohio State, and Ole Miss, though the Vols and Buckeyes are assumed to be the two strongest candidates.
Gabriel Georges spoke on the situation himself with On3’s Chris Low over the weekend.
“It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50,” Gabriel Georges said. “People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly for me, it’s pretty close.”
Tennessee Football has produced three straight 1,000-yard rushers under head coach Josh Heupel. Jaylen Wright ran for 1,013 yards in 2023, Dylan Sampson broke UT records with 1,491 yards in 2024, and former walk-on running back DeSean Bishop reached 1,076 yards this past season. Bishop returns to the Vols this season and will have a chance to build on his breakout campaign in 2025.
“Both programs I think feel great about where they stand because of what they have to offer,” Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong said last week, referring to the Vols and Buckeyes. “And for Tennessee, immediate starting job, number zero, a chance to be a legend is what his uncle highlighted this week in my conversation with him. Someone that could help bring Tennessee back to the forefront of college football and how special that would be, how a legacy like that would be remembered in Knoxville, alongside guys like Peyton Manning, it would be pretty special. And the relationship with Coach Heupel and the rest of the staff is second-to-none, and having relationships with players on the team, guys from Canada, it’s exciting.”
