Tennessee football has landed 12 commitments in recent weeks and one of its more under the radar commits is moving up the recruiting rankings. Greeneville athlete Zay Anderson made a major move up 247sports rankings earlier this week.
Anderson now ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 225 player in the country according to 247sports. He also ranks as the No. 17 athlete and the No. 5 player in the state of Tennessee in the 2025 cycle. The rankings bump also means that Anderson is now a four-star recruit and the No. 402 player nationally in the 247sports composite rankings.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect plays both receiver and cornerback at Greeneville High School but projects as a cornerback at Tennessee.

Anderson almost jumped up a full 200 spots in the latest recruiting rankings from No. 417 to No. 225. It’s the first time since May that he’s ranked as a top 400 player in the class and the first time ever he’s ranked as a top 300 player in the class.
Landing Anderson appears to be a major evaluation win for Tennessee with the Vols beating out Cincinnati and Toledo to land the new four-star’s services. Of course, time will tell how good of an evaluation it truly was.
Last season as a junior, Anderson caught 28 passes for 713 yards and 11 touchdowns while also intercepting four passes. He helped the Green Devils to a 12-2 record and a trip to the 4A State Semifinals. The four-star prospect is a three-sport star at Greeneville, also playing basketball and running track and field.
Tennessee football’s recruiting class contains 21 commitments including from six defensive backs. Anderson is the only one of those six defensive backs that 247sports ranks as a four-star recruit. The Vols’ 21-commit recruiting class currently ranks No. 13 nationally and No. 6 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
