On Saturday, Tennessee’s current football team finally got an SEC win with a 20-10 victory over Mississippi State. On Sunday night, a former Vol stole the show for his current NFL team.

Third-year defensive back and former Vol Cam Sutton played an exceptional game for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their match-up with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. The Steelers desperately needed a win heading into their bye week, and with the offense starting their third-string quarterback, Pittsburgh needed their defense to step up.

And the defense did just that.

Pittsburgh shut out the Chargers for three quarters, and it wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Los Angeles started making a comeback. The Steelers led 24-0 heading into the fourth, but the Chargers scored 17-straight points and were threatening to make a huge comeback.

Then with 41 seconds remaining in the game and the Chargers backed up at their own one-yard-line, Sutton made a huge play.

Sutton had already broken up several passes in the contest and had been a lockdown defensive back for the Steelers all night. Then with less than a minute to go, he picked off an errant Phillip Rivers pass to seal the 24-17 victory for Pittsburgh.

The former Vol finished the game with that interception, three passes defended, and a tackle.

Pittsburgh’s defense stepped up big time on Sunday night. Sutton had an interception, Devin Bush did as well, and Bush also returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Sutton and Bush’s play were pivotal in the Steelers getting a much-needed victory to improve to 2-4 on the year.

On the season, Sutton has seven tackles, an interception, and five passes defended in six games. His interception on Sunday marked his third pick of his NFL career. Sutton was drafted in the third round with the 94th overall selection by the Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft and has played in 26 games so far for Pittsburgh.
