Linebackers
For once in the last half of this season, the linebacking unit was able to contain an opponent’s rushing attack. Nebraska managed just 61 rushing yards on 28 carries against Tennessee in the Music City Bowl despite the Vols having allowed over 1,000 combined yards over the last three weeks of the regular season. Darrin Kirkland Jr. looked healthier than he has almost all season and seven tackles and two tackles for loss. Cortez McDowell also had seven tackles, and even some of the backups got some quality playing time. The linebackers struggled a bit in pass coverage from time to time, but overall the unit had a very solid performance.
