The Vols have made up a ton of ground in a short period of time with Emmit Gooden. And he’s a name that Vol fans who pay attention to recruiting might recognize.

Gooden was a player that Tennessee pursued heavily while he was in high school in the state of Tennessee. Gooden was an in-state player in the 2015 recruiting class, and he committed to the Vols back in February of 2014. He then decommitted from Tennessee in April of the same year, but he kept the Vols in his thoughts and eventually named them one of his leaders in February of 2015.

Ultimately, Gooden ended up committing to Mississippi State, but he never signed with the Bulldogs. He instead went to Independence Community College in Kansas, and that’s where he’s played the last two seasons.

Now Gooden is a four-star JUCO defensive tackle, and he’s still interested in the Vols.

Tennessee didn’t offer Gooden this time around until January 14th, but they’ve done enough in that short period of time to be named one of his three top schools and to get a visit from him.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Gooden is a four-star defensive tackle and is the No. 17 JUCO player in the 2018 class. He’s also the 7th-best JUCO defensive tackle according to those rankings.

  1. Im tired of chasing these kids around allowing their heads to blow up like balloons. Year in and year out, UT has top recruiting classes. And that doesnt and has not translated into much. These kids have a good year or two and jump for the NFL money. I would rather have 3star talent with young men who want to earn a degree than these 5star kids with over inflated egos.
