The secondary is the most star-studded group of remaining prospects for Tennessee in this cycle. The Vols are targeting some of the best corners in the 2018 class heading into signing day, and hitting on even just one would be gigantic for this class and Tennessee’s coaches.
Tyson Campbell is the most long shot of them all. The Vols were able to get him to visit last weekend, and he enjoyed his visit. But it’s highly unlikely he leaves the state of Florida, and if he does it might not be for Tennessee. The Vols are in great position with Olaijah Griffin, but they will have to battle USC tooth and nail for him till National Signing Day.
Isaac Taylor-Stuart is one to watch as well. The Vols are fighting USC for him as well, and his official visit to Tennessee this weekend will go a very long way in determining his future. Taylor-Stuart is bringing his whole family with him on his trip to Knoxville.
Eddie Smith was once considered a Tennessee lean even just a week ago, but Alabama has put on so much pressure in his recruitment that it looks like the Tide have become his leader. Taiyon Palmer would certainly be a take for the Vols if they miss out on their top targets, but he might still fit into the class even if Tennessee does land Griffin or Taylor-Stuart.
At safety, the Vols are really only targeting two players. Tennessee appeared to be in play for Nikko Hall just a few weeks ago, but the chatter around him has quieted down some. The Vols have been pushing to get Trevon Flowers to visit them for weeks, and he finally appears able to this weekend. Flowers is an interesting prospect in that he was slated to play baseball for Kentucky early in his recruitment. But he appears to want to play football now, and he’s garnered some attention from some big time teams since. Clemson recently offered him, and he visited the Tigers last weekend. The Vols will have to fight Clemson to get him, and the Tigers aren’t easy to beat on the recruiting trail.
