I thought Jarrett Guarantano didn’t play nearly as badly as people are trying to make it sound. I’m firmly of the opinion that if you’re trying to place a lot of the blame for Saturday’s loss on JG’s shoulders, then at this point you genuinely just have an agenda or have your mind dead set on not liking him.

With that being said, Guarantano’s play on Saturday still wasn’t what it needed to be, but he wasn’t in the top five reasons why UT lost. He got bailed out with a defensive penalty on an awful interception he threw in the end zone, and his other interception that did count was also not a good throw. He had some puzzling decisions and inaccurate passes, but he also made some good choices and did enough that Tennessee should’ve been able to win. The offensive line didn’t help him at all, both in pass blocking and in blocking for the run to give Guarantano a run game to hand off to in order to alleviate pressure.

Jarrett Guarantano didn’t play bad on Saturday, but he didn’t have his best outing either. I realize that’s not a popular opinion, but Guarantano threw for 311 yards, two touchdowns, and completed 65 percent of his passes. Unfortunately for the redshirt junior, a couple of poor plays is what folks will remember most. He was flustered and rushed at times while also trying to force a couple of throws. The offensive line did him no favors, but as a fourth-year player, Guarantano needs to be at the point where he is making his teammates better.

  1. As a kid I growing up in Tennessee, I watched Johnny Majors coaching the Vols. From there the only highlights was Peyton Manning, who never won a championship, and T. Martin who was a one hit wonder.
