Running Backs

I don’t know that I’d give the Vols’ running backs a failing grade, but they were certainly extremely ineffective. But they also weren’t called upon very often. Tennessee’s running backs finished with just 11 carries on Saturday while UT’s quarterbacks totaled nine carries. Chandler was okay on his runs, averaging four yards a carry, but both he and Tim Jordan failed to make a lot of headway for the most part. Throw in the Chandler fumble in the second half, and this is very close to a failing grade, but not quite there.

Tennessee’s running backs barely did anything on Saturday night. In fact, because Ty Chandler simply dropped the hand-off from Guarantano, David Johnson’s group actually did more to hurt the team than help. Guarantano was Tennessee’s leading rusher against the Cats with 30 rushing yards. That’s all you need to know about the performance of the running backs.
