Even though the stat sheet doesn’t show a ton of eye-popping stats from the Vols’ defensive line, I thought UT’s first line of defense played well against Vanderbilt. They were a big reason the Commodores struggled to gain much traction in the ground game, and they were able to get enough pressure on Vandy’s quarterbacks to move them out of the pocket and force erratic throws. I was especially impressed by Kurott Garland.

Aside from the drive in which Vanderbilt scored a touchdown, Tennessee’s defense played well, and it started up front with the defensive line. Tracy Rocker’s unit did a good job of filling their run gaps and also pushing the pocket to force Riley Neal out of it. Kurott Garland played well and tallied a tackle for a loss, while John Mincey also recorded a tackle for a loss.
