Alternate Uniform Concepts for Tennessee Football

1963 “Halloween” Uniform

  • Based on the 1963 Tennessee Football team.
  • Because of the orange and black colors, they were called “Halloween Uniforms” by fans.
  • New head coach Jim McDonald wanted to make his mark on the Vols football team and added white/black/white stripes to the shoulders and black numbers to the jerseys and on the sides of the helmet, replacing the orange numbers from 1962.
  • McDonald was an eccentric coach and wasn’t well liked. He was fired at the end of the season, and these uniforms were replaced the following season.
