Tennessee Sets Program Record With First Team All-American Awards

by -

The awards just continue to come in for the Tennessee baseball team. In late March, the SEC had announced that six Tennessee players landed on the All-SEC teams. Then, on Wednesday, Perfect Game announced that seven Tennessee players landed on its 2022 All-America rosters. And now, on Thursday, the National College Baseball Writer’s Association has also announced seven All-Americans from Tennessee.

Four of the Vols’ seven All-Americans from the NCBWA are first-team selections, which is a new program record for Tennessee.

According to the National College Baseball Writer’s Association, Tennessee’s four First Team All-Americans are RHP Chase Dollander, RHP Chase Burns, 3B Trey Lipscomb, and OF Drew Gilbert. The Vols’ Second Team All-American selections include RHP Drew Beam and LHP Redmond Walsh, while Tennessee flamethrower Ben Joyce lands as a Third Team All-American.

In addition, the NCBWA also named Chase Burns the Freshman Pitcher of the Year.

“Tennessee has now had eight players earn non-freshman All-America honors this season, doubling the previous program record of four set in 2021 and 1994,” according to Tennessee Athletics.

The entire list of All-Americans from the NCBWA can be found here.

There is quite a bit of overlap between the selections from both Perfect Game and the NCBWA, but there are some differences as well. For instance, Beam, Burns, Dollander, Gilbert, and Lipscomb all have a spot on both publications. Meanwhile, only Perfect Game has Tennessee 2B Jorel Ortega listed, while only the NCBWA has Walsh and Joyce listed.
