Five-star combo guard Brayden Burries is officially visiting Tennessee basketball for the Vols’ matchup against Mississippi State on Tuesday.

Burries ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 12 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard ranks as the No. 2 combo guard and the No. 2 player in the state of California in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

While this is Burries’ first trip to Tennessee, the Vols have long targeted the blue-chip recruit as one of its top targets in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Tennessee originally planned on hosting Burries the weekend of the Alabama football game but has consistently pushed back the visit as Burries timeline has changed.

Burries is from San Bernandine, California, but he does have a tie to Tennessee with his mother playing softball at Tennessee.

The blue-chip recruit is considering a number of teams far from his Southern California home. Burries took official visits to Alabama, SMU and Oregon this fall though he did take an unofficial visit to USC. The blue-chip recruit also took an unofficial visit to Arizona in the fall after taking his official visit to Arizona last February.

This is an incredibly important recruiting class for Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball due to the high number of scholarships that they have available. The Vols have eight scholarships to work with in the 2025 recruiting cycle. They started the season with two scholarship spots unfilled. Cam Carr leaving the program made it three for the spring semester.

Tennessee has six seniors on their current roster including returnees Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey as well as incoming transfers Darlinstone Dubar, Chaz Lanier and Igor Milicic. The Vols signed a pair of four-star recruits back in November in wing Amari Evans and center DeWayne Brown. Tennessee is also working to land five-star wing Nate Ament as well as Burries.

Tennessee has also been linked to four-star point guard and former Virginia commit Chance Mallory but the undersized point guard has yet to visit Tennessee. The Vols did host three-star point guard Zyree Collins on a visit for their SEC opening win over Arkansas.
