How Every Tony Vitello Era Vol To Reach MLB Has Fared

The Los Angeles Angels called up Christian Moore to The Show on Thursday night less than a year after Moore helped lead Tennessee to the 2024 national championship.

Moore is the ninth Tony Vitello era Vol to make it to the MLB. How have the eight other players fared? Taking a look here.

LHP Garrett Crochet

Career stats: 118 GP, 46 GS, 15-23, 3.02 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 307 IP, 404 K

The Chicago White Sox drafted with the 11th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft and he was the first player from that draft class to make it up to the big leagues in September 2020. Crochet started his career as a relief pitcher and dealt with injuries before his breakout 2024 season with the White Sox. Chicago traded him to Boston this offseason and the Red Sox promptly signed him to a six-year, $170 million contract.

RHP Ben Joyce

Career stats: 48 GP, 1 GS, 4-1, 3.12 ERA, 4 SV, 1.31 WHIP, 49 IP, 44 K

The Los Angeles Angels drafted Joyce in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft and he made his debut with the Angels in May 2023. After a stellar 2024 season, Joyce made just five appearances this season before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery last month.

3B Andre Lipcius

Career stats: 13 GP, 35 ABs, .286/.342/.400 slash line, 1 HR, 4 RBI

Lipcius was the first star of the Tony Vitello era before the Tigers selected him in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft. The third baseman got a cup of coffee with the Tigers big league squad late in 2023.  Lipcius is now in the White Sox system, hitting .280 in AAA Charlotte this season.

3B Trey Lipscomb

Career stats: 64 GP, .206/.272/.232 slash line, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 11 SB

The Washington Nationals drafted Lipscomb in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft and made his debut with the big league club in March 2024. He’s been up-and-down from AAA to the MLB since and has spent most of the 2025 season in AAA but recently got called up to the big league team where he is hitting two-for-four on the season.

OF Jordan Beck

Career stats: 113 GP, 381 ABs, .231/.287/.383 slash line, 11 HR, 33 RBI, 15 SB

The Colorado Rockies drafted Beck in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft and called him up to the big league squad last April. He spent the entirety of last season in the MLB and mostly struggled. But after a short stint in AAA early this season, Beck has found his footing. He’s hitting .265 with eight home runs, 23 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and eight stolen bases this season.

RHP Seth Halvorsen

Career stats: 40 GP, 3-2, 3.60 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 5 SV, 40 IP, 39 K

The Colorado Rockies drafted the former Tennessee reliever in the seventh round of the 2023 MLB Draft and called him up to the big league team in August 2024. Halvorsen has been a bright spot out of the bullpen on an otherwise dreadful Rockies team. He has a 4.55 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched this season.

RHP Chase Dollander

Career stats: 10 GP, 10 GS, 2-6, 6.85 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 44.2 IP, 42 K

The Colorado Rockies selected the former SEC Pitcher of the Year with the ninth pick in the 2023 MLB Draft before calling him up to the big league squad earlier this season. Dollander had a poor start to his professional career before finding his footing. He has missed time as of late with an injury.

RHP Blade Tidwell

Career stats: 1 GP, 1 GS, 0-1, 14.73 ERA, 3.27 WHIP, 3.2 IP, 2 K

The New York Mets selected Tidwell in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft and Tidwell is one of the top pitchers in the Mets’ farm system. New York called him up for a spot start earlier this season and it did not go well, but Tidwell has had a strong year in AAA Syracuse.
