Tennessee shortstop Manny Marin plans on entering the transfer portal after spending two years in the Volunteer program, Volquest’s Mike Wilson first reported and a source confirmed to RTI on Friday afternoon.

Marin is a draft eligible sophomore and could also go pro ahead of his junior season. But if Marin ends up playing college baseball in 2027, it won’t be at Tennessee.

The Florida native started 97 games in two seasons at Tennessee, mostly playing third base during his freshman season before sliding over and playing shortstop in 2026. Marin was a solid defender up the middle, helping the Vols turn in one of the nation’s best fielding percentage.

At the plate, Marin slashed .291/.338/.448 with nine home runs, nine doubles and 43 RBIs. He hit in the six or seven-hole for most of his junior season.

Marin’s most notable moment at Tennessee was a negative one. He was unable to get a bunt down on a squeeze play that would have walked off East Carolina in game one of the Chapel Hill Regional.

When he officially enters, Marin will be the 13th Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He joins a group including utility man Jay Abernathy, catcher Cash Williams, infielder Finley Bates, shortstop Ariel Antigua, infielder Ethan Moore, first baseman Evan Hankins, utility man Hunter High, utility man Chris Newstrom, outfielder Hutson Chance and right-handed pitcher Brayden Krenzel, two-way Taylor Tracey and right-handed pitcher Ari Bethea.

A number of key Vols have shared their intentions to return for next season including catcher Trent Grindlinger, right-handed pitcher Landon Mack and left-handed pitcher Cam Appenzeller.

The Vols have either hosted or scheduled visits with four transfers so far this offseason. Samford outfielder Jake Souders officially visited on Thursday while Mercer two-way Braydon Kersey is visiting Friday. Northwestern State left-handed pitcher Brody Trosclair plans on visiting Sunday and Air Force infielder Wyatt Hanoian plans on visiting Monday.

After failing to make it out of the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, Elander and his coaching staff enter a critical offseason. Tennessee will lose a number of players to the portal and will be aggressive adding more talent to its roster.
