Former Lady Vols basketball assistant coach under Kim Caldwell, Roman Tubner, is joining one of the top ACC programs. He announced that he will be a part of Louisville’s staff this upcoming season after two years under Caldwell at Tennessee. He was not retained following the end of this past season.

“I want to thank Coach Tubner for his contributions to our program during the past two seasons,” Caldwell said at the time. “We wish him the very best moving forward.”

Tubner just concluded his second year with Tennessee, joining Caldwell on her inaugural staff after taking the job at UT. He was hired off of Alabama’s staff under Kristy Curry, where he spent 2021-24. Curry took the head coaching job at USF this offseason.

Tubner is an all-around coach and played a factor on the recruiting trail, but one of his calling cards was defense. He held the title of defensive coordinator for the Tide before joining the Lady Vols.

This season, Tennessee finished 16-14 (8-8 SEC). The Lady Vols were the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament, but lost to Alabama in the second round. They earned a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but lost to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

After the year, along with Tubner, Caldwell also parted ways with assistant coach and lead recruiter Gabe Lazo. He ended up accepting the head coaching role at UCF after the departure.

To replace Tubner and Lazo, UT hired Bill Ferrara from Florida State and Isoken Uzamere from Georgia. Both were critical pieces on the recruiting trail with the short turnaround to build an entirely new roster. This came after every potential returner entered their name into the transfer portal. This included Deniya Prawl, who picked Louisville and will now be reunited with Tubner.
