Defensive line
One of the most hyped groups over the offseason didn’t produce much in the opener. There were a few hurries off the edge and a couple nice stops in the run game, but Appalachian State had this group off balance all evening. The Vols recorded no sacks, a modest six TFLs and got gashed on several occasions. Appalachian State has a strong rushing attack, but the Vols made Marcus Cox (24 carries, 115 yards) look like the best player on the field at times.
