It didn’t matter what Tennessee dialed up in this one: Alabama had better talent and coaching. The Vols’ defensive schemes did what they could against a potent Alabama offense, but eventually they wore down as well. The offensive side of things, however, proved once again to be disastrous. Tennessee totaled just 108 yards of offense and 2.3 yards per play. The Vols’ offense looked ineffective and had fewer first downs (7) than punts (9).
