Aside from Todd Kelly Jr., Micah Abernathy is the most veteran player on Tennessee’s roster this season. He entered the year having played in 36 games and made 22 career starts. He’s been one of the primary starters in the Vols’ secondary this season, though he’s missed a handful of games due to injury.

Abernathy has been a good run-defending safety for the Vols in his tenure at Tennessee, and he missed four games this season due to a minor injury. But he returned against Kentucky last weekend and made a season-high seven tackles in the contest.

In 42 career games, Abernathy has recorded 184 tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions, 11 passes defended, and five fumble recoveries.  He’s also returned 10 kick-offs in his career for an average of 19.2 yards per return.
