Walt Wells, Offensive Line
Walt Wells has coached in the state of Tennessee before. He coached at Cumberland University from 1994-96 and Smyrna High School from 1992-93. But Wells is far from a known commodity despite coaching for over two decades.
Wells has no Power-5 experience but has coached at Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, and New Mexico State. Wells has strong recruiting ties, especially in the middle Tennessee area. But his skills as an actual position coach at a Power-5 school have yet to be seen.
Essentially, we know little about Wells. He was brought on in a support role to Tennessee’s staff before the 2016 season, so he’s been at Tennessee for a year already. Wells knows the Vols’ roster and knows the staff. But he will have to prove himself as the main voice for the offensive linemen.
