Tennessee Bumps Up in Recruiting Rankings Following Jordan Ross Commitment

With time winding down until the start of the 2023 college football season, Tennessee landed one of its biggest targets in the class of 2024 on Monday night.

Highly-touted EDGE rusher Jordan Ross committed to Tennessee on Monday night to give the Vols their highest-rated overall commit in the class so far according to 247.

Ross is a well-built 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, with great athleticism and length when working on the outside. The Birmingham, Alabama native has played both defensive end and outside linebacker for his high school in Vestavia Hills.

Ross ranks as a four-star prospect according to Rivals, On3, and ESPN’s services while 247 Sports has him listed as a five-star prospect. Overall, 247’s industry-wide rankings have Ross as a four-star recruit, the No. 36 player in the class, the No. 4 EDGE rusher in the country, and the No. 5 player from the state of Alabama.

Prior to Ross’s commitment on Monday night, Tennessee held the No. 9 position according to On3’s team rankings and the No. 11 spot according to both Rivals and 247. Additionally, the Vols held the No. 6 spot in the SEC in all three publications behind Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Texas A&M in varying order.

Coming out of Ross’s commitment, though, the Vols bump up to a Top 10 team across the board.

The Vols’ 2024 class now ranks No. 6 according to 247Sports and On3 while Rivals has Tennessee at No. 7 for 2024. Tennessee also comes in as the 4th highest-ranked SEC team according to all three.
