6. Don Mahoney
There are a couple coaches on this list, and they are very deserving of being so. One of them is offensive line coach Don Mahoney.
Both of Tennessee’s tackles didn’t have a terrible showing against Appalachian State, but the interior of the line had one of the worst performances a Tennessee offensive line has had since 2014. A lot of that falls on the players themselves, but Mahoney has plenty of responsibility to bear too. Instead of dipping into his depth and trying to find a combo that worked, he stuck with the main starting five for most of the night and only played seven linemen all night.
The offensive line’s performance won’t all be on Mahoney, but he certainly has a say in what happens. And he needs to help his unit better this week.
